Berber carpet vs regular plush carpet

We're considering Berber carpet but I've read somewhere that it is hard to clean. I have two boys 3&4 yrs old. This alone will ensure a lot of wear in the carpet. I'd like some advise. If you know the pros and cons, let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it.
