: The linoleum in my kitchen has yellow spots which have steadily appeared since the flooring was installed 6 years ago. I have tried everything to remove them. Can anything be done besides replacing the flooring?

There are a couple of things that can cause yellowing, from beneath.

Plasticizer migration.
Unapproved luan underlayment with oils.
The wrong adhesive
Not removing or encapsulating existing adhesive before applying new adhesive.
Wax dipped fasteners
Rusting fasteners
All of which are installation related. It wasn't installed to specifications. Corners were cut somewhere down the line. Good thing is, warranties don't start until the product is installed to specs! So in reality and in the eyes of a judge, the warranty hasn't started yet. The bad part is, you need to have it inspected and documented.

Now with that said, rubber backed areas rugs cause yellowing too as well as topical chemicals. An inspector can determine the cause, and what is at fault.
