: : I am planning to install 8"x8" tile over an 8'x11' section of my basement I have made into a wine cellar. The house is brand new and this small room in the basement has the typical poured concrete floor which is to say it is not perfectly level. I took out a book from the library which refers to a cement-like material which can be poured over concrete to make it more level. What is the stuff called and how hard is it to install yourself? I'm not referring to backer board, but instead to a pour-on cement/concrete type material.
: The material I would suggest would be an Ardex Product. This material can be mixed to a self-leveling consistancy that will fill in the low spots to create a smooth surface to receive your tile.
: I should mention that most preparation of this manner should only be completed by an authorized Floor Craftsman because of the sub-floor is not right ... your tile will look bad.
: You can also SCREED over the high spots to fill in the low spots ... this is easier but still requires a figh degree of skill.
: Email me if you have any further questions.
I have scraped up old linolium sheeting in my kitched and am left with bare cement floor on which I plan to install linolium tile squares. How do I best clean the cement and do I need to have adhesive in addition to what is on the self stick linolium squares? Thanks.
