I am installing new 5.5inch wide red pine flooring into an 1880 farmhouse located in Ontario, Canada

The sub floor is T & G pine and fir plywood that is screwed to the joist

I am installing the boards on the 1st 2nd and 3rd Floors

Question: -

Do I need a vapor barrier between the sub-floor and the pine? If so what type, vapor lock, kraft paper etc?

What is the best method of installation to eliminate cupping?

Should I paint or seal the back of the boards to stop moisture build -up

Thanks

Doug Phillips, Toronto
