Hi Bob,
This seems to me, a critical issue. Where
can we find some information on who or who doesn't
meet ASTM protocol? Also, which kits advise us whether
they have residual moisture gain ratings?? These issues
would be critical in judicial litigation.

Thanks!
Wally

: We recently conducted some testing that disturbed us. After talking with others, (and unknown to us at the time) we were surprised to find that several others (researchers, etc.) conducted their own studies and came to virtually identical conclusions.

: There are several manufacturers of moisture test kits. Most of these kits are of excellent quality, but the instructions given by the kit manufacturers actually violate ASTM protocol! We have also found that many of these kits have a consistent residual moisture pick-up of 0.5-1.0 lbs! This means that some tests that are in the critical 3.0-4.0 lb reading, may actually be at or under the maximum 3.0 lb requirement! The best protection for the installer, inspector, manufacturer, etc. is to REQUIRE that all moisture test kits come furnished with instructions that conform to ASTM and list their residual moisture gain ratings.

: Please pass this information on to others.
