Our house was built in 1917 and we recently pulled up the old 70's carpet on the first floor and now are wondering what to do. The original hardwood floors are in fair condition with the exception of areas where the old floor was removed or patched due to the replacement of the heating system. Also a section in the kitchen were a wall was removed and there is no hardwood there. We have debated having the floors redone, but haven't received any positive response on how to replace the areas that have been removed, or just recarpet the living areas and but vinyl or laminate flooring in the kitchen. Found this forum and was wondering what recommendations anyone had.
