: I believe the key word here is cheaply. While it is certainally possible to have carpet installed for $2/yard you must realize what you are getting. Being as you are not in the trade, consider this: based on a 1000 sq.ft. home, or 111 sq.yds., you will have two skilled professionals show up with the proper tools, perform hard physical labor for 8-10 hours, paying for the essential supplies (tackstrip, seam tape, blades, staples, metal trim, etc...), insurance, fuel & transportation to and from the job site and of course applicable taxes for two-hundred and twenty two dollars? Now keep in mind, the average cost of supplies 'alone' for installation is eighty-cents. So, after supplies and before the other expenses, these fellows have gone from Two-hundred-twenty-two down to one-hundred-fourty-two.

: Now seriously, what type of professional do you think your going to get? Certainally not ones who would cut corners and compromise the integrity of the installation just to pocket a little more. But, I'm sure your wholesale connections only deal with reputable installers, who of course stand behind their work. In fact they probally only work so cheaply because of the sheer volume they do with the wholesaler. Yeah right. That is intended as humor.

: I do wish you well.

I'm currently charging $4 for cut pile on wood
Add $1 /yd for on concrete and another .75/ yd
for loop pile. $4.50 for glue down. Add a $1 for unitary,Enhancer etc. I also charge $2-$3 per foot of seaming. Take up of carpet and pad is $2/ yd. on stretch. and $5/ yd for rubber back.
These are just some of the prices I'm charging now in Minnesota.
While I completely agree with David and Richard, I living in a farming area and I can tell you that the farmers are getting less for their products than they got 20-30 years ago. Hopefully this will change for them soon. Too many big guys taking all the money from the little guy. Alot like our industry.
Perhaps we just have to wait until all these cheap guys go out of business in order to get the bottom price up. All boats rise with the same tide!! Sorry for rambling on must be getting tired. Best Wishes Scott Tullis

PS My prices are about .50/yd higher than others in my area. But I use that as a selling point and make sure that the customer knows he's getting a top quality job with top products ie. no cheap seam tape, etc.
