Water Damage to hardwood flooring

We had water damage to our pylwood flooring in our living room which rolled under a newly laid hardwood floor in a connected room. The new hardwood was replaced, however the plywood was apparently not completely dry. 3-4 months later the floor where the water was is cupping and wavey. We were told to dry out the area with a dehumidifier and the floor should settle. Is this true?? It seems like the boards in that area may be loose in the future once they flatten down, if they ever do. Does anyone have an opinion or educated solution for us? Ripping up the area, we were told is not a good solution, since the match with the undamaged areas will be bad. Help
